上野裕二郎展 In the Flow −存在の流動−
私にとって20代最後の個展となる本展では、存在を「流れ」として捉える視点のもと、これまで取り組んできたテーマを改めて見つめ直し、その核に立ち返るように制作を行いました。生き物が内包する「気」や外界との相互作用といった要素は、私にとって一貫した関心であり、それらを明確なかたちで、より深化させて提示したいと考えました。
制作においては、存在を固定されたものではなく、流れとして捉える視点を重視しています。西洋では、存在をいかに捉え、表現するかという問いが探求されてきた一方、東洋では、物質と精神は不可分であり、万物は関係の中で絶えず変化し続ける存在として捉えられてきました。そうした考え方は、自身の実感とも深く重なっています。
私は主に動物や神獣をモチーフに、それらが持つ力や流れを描こうとしてきました。龍や鳳凰といった存在は、古来、人間の理想や象徴的意味を投影してきた対象であり、同時に流動する存在の象徴でもあります。そうした在り方は、陰と陽といった対立する要素が相互に作用しながら変化し続けるという東洋的な世界観とも深く関わっています。そうしたモチーフを通して、目に見えない力のあり方を画面上に立ち上げようとしています。制作においてはストロークを重視し、その運動を通して対象の内在的な力を捉えようとしてきました。本展ではさらに技法の拡張を試み、ポーリングによる絵具の流動や削り、押し付けといったこれまで用いてきた行為に加え、エアブラシやマスキングを用いた新たな手法を取り入れ、より多層的な画面を構成しています。
中心となる作品「龍の四相」では、中国古典である易経において語られる龍の変化の段階−−−−潜龍・見龍・飛龍・亢龍−−−−に着想を得て、その推移を描いています。これは人間の一生になぞらえられており、それぞれ、潜在し力を蓄える段階・現れ始める段階・躍動する最盛期・極に達し転じていく段階を示すものです。今後のあり方を見つめ直す時期にある自身にとっても、示唆的な主題であったと感じています。
本展覧会「In the Flow −存在の流動−」は、気の流れやエネルギーの循環、生き物の動きや時間の推移を重ね合わせ、流れの中で立ち現れ変化し続ける存在のあり方を、絵画として可視化する試みです。
